    Lisa Southern, Executive Director

“I have been the Executive Director at Compass Behavioral Health since May 2017. I have been with Compass since 1994 in various positions ~ Crisis Services Therapist, LSH Liaison, BHS Program Manager, and Region I Program Director. Education-wise, I have a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from WSU and a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from FHSU. I am dually licensed as a Masters Level Psychologist and Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist. Clinically, I love providing crisis services and being there for people when they need it the most.  I very much enjoy meeting with people interested in exploring a career in behavioral health and getting them as passionate about this I am. I recognize and work to make others aware that untreated behavioral health conditions can really take a heavy toll on life’s everyday experiences, choices, and responsibilities. I wake up every morning excited to come to Compass and be a part of the great work we do.  This past year and the pandemic has had such an impact on everyone and I love the opportunity to address these issues and the impact of isolation and loneliness.”

    Melissa Parker, LMLP

Melissa is currently the Quality Improvement Manager for Compass Behavioral Health and has served in this position for the last three years.  She is licensed as a Masters Level Psychologist and practiced as a full-time therapist for 10 years before moving into the QI Management position.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology—both from Fort Hays State University. Melissa is very familiar with Southwest Kansas as this is her home turf—she was born and raised in Garden City.  Melissa truly enjoys community outreach opportunities—specifically, providing education about mental health to people within a community setting.  As a therapist, she loved helping people find their life worth living.  She holds a special place in her heart for providing immediate care to those who have just experienced a tragedy by providing Critical Incident Stress Debriefings.  As the QI Manager, her passion has grown to include improving processes and procedures within Compass to help staff better serve consumers AND to help support staff since the mental health field can be difficult at times.  Someone once asked her, “who helps the helpers?” and that has stuck with Melissa since – so it’s her mission to “help the helpers”.  When she is “off duty” as a therapist or QI Manager, she LOVES to travel, do home improvement projects, and be an awesome mom to a five-year-old boy!"
